Joezef K - An Ode to Sienko's Plastic Guitar (9:13)
For Christmas 2003, we give you the results of our first annual Uranium City Records Attic Clear Out, a collection of old tape, obsolete projects and undetermined recordings that will never find their way onto proper albums, but are too good to go unheard. Here's what you get:
The Clawson Three - Razor Blade
This trio tries to get at the heart of true folk music while treading lightly to avoid destroying it. They don't record nearly enough, but this is a rare sample from early 2003 caught on microcassette as they wend through a tortured and soulful razor-blade improvisation.
Joezef K - Ashpalt Carpet
This is from K's first record, "Finally, A Tape Recording System" available on 2nd Floor Mafia Productions. A creepy ride with creepy magnetic tape.
The Dowriver Players - True West
An ill-concieved attempt at performance art, featuring bad actors and good guitarists reciting the Sam Shepard play. The Downriver Players have since moved to Boston, and this is all that remains of the original sessions. Worth a listen...the guitars definitely convey the narrative, while the narration stumbles.
Unknown - Undetermined I
This sounds like someone trying out a new repeating delay pedal. Often interesting. From a cassette found on the attic floor, unlabelled.
Joezef K - The Final Commute of Rustler the Hustler
Also from "Tape Recording System," this is reel manipulation run amok!
Johnston Clan of Cutthroats and Outlaws - New Year's Day
My family rings in every new year with a jam; this is from 2003.
Unknown - Undetermined II
This sounds like some heavily-chorused guitar with a small string section of cello and violin. From a section of tangled loose tape found on the attic floor, sans cassette housing.
Joezef K - Rod Serling's Wax Museum (Rough Cut of Intro)
In case he never finishes this long-term Waterloo, here's an obsolete rough cut of the introduction to the soundscape of the Haunted House of the World.
Joezef K - An Ode To Sienko's Plastic Guitar
C.M. Sienko very nearly played his most remarkable plastic Flintstone's guitar into the ground last year. He commisioned several elegies from various folk, and this was K's contribution.
A little something for everyone for Christmas. Enjoy...
